Arts Crawl

Spent some family time enjoying some art work this weekend. We started out Saturday with a visit to the California Building in NE Minneapolis. The kids had a blast.
Corwin's Print

Corwin fell in love with a small print of a painting with a frog on it. Cynthia had remembered to bring Corwin’s wallet with and so he was able to buy it with his own money! Later on during the visit, we came across one studio where the artist had taped a blank sheet of paper in the hallway with a bucket of crayons for kids to use. Corwin started drawing his frog. As I held it up for him so he could have an easier time, the artist offered to hang it up so I would not have to stand there holding it.

Next up was the St. Paul Arts Crawl. The Crawl was exciting. Seeing that many artist’s work in a relaxed atmosphere was quite enjoyable. The kids loved the treats that were offered at almost every stop and were nearly exploding with the extra sugar intake, but were still able to hold it together and behaved quite well even staying out past their usual bedtime.

We got a bit of a late start on Saturday and went back again for
more on Sunday. We saw less than we had the night before, but did get to have a fun walk through downtown and ate at Mickey’s Diner for lunch. Afterward, we decided to not press our luck by keeping the kids out all day, and headed home.

Overall an amazing weekend of family art appreciation. It was comforting to see some of the love of art that we have instilled in our kids.

A ‘Deep Thought’

… that could only come from a High School mind.

I have, I was, I am.
Are you?
Or he? Or she?
Or they or them?
We are. They are.
I am!

Twin Cities Marathon

Running with 10,999 other people was an interesting contrast to my long runs leading up to this experience. From “Watch out for that puddle” to the jokes about this being more like a triathlon, I’ve never felt closer to so many people! Sure it was fun to pass people, but when I saw the steam coming up off every body in front of me to form a cloud over us, this experience will forever be a part of me. The overwhelming tears after crossing the finish line were followed be the realization that I just achieved a new PR. I wanted to do it, I could do it, I had to do it, I was going to do it no matter what… Now I am content to spend more time focusing on my family life and whatever lay ahead.

Twin Cities Marathon

Cynthia ran the Twin Cities Marathon on Sunday. I was a bit worried in the morning when it was raining rather hard. Once it slowed to a drizzle, I took the kids and tried to track her down on the course.

We made it to Mile 15 in time, but unfortunately missed her :( After waiting a while there we started to head to the van to move down the course a bit. When we got to the van to leave, I noticed a voicemail… it was her saying she was just passing the 15 mile marker :-/

We moved on to a point between mile 22 and 23. Was not long of a wait before she came by. She was looking better than I had feared given the inclement weather. We tried not to hold her too long and let her keep going.

Traffic was completely miserable trying to get to the capital. Cynthia actually beat us there. It was probably better that way though since it gave her time to cool down and grab a massage.
