Site moved to WordPress

Well, tomorrow is one year since I put the blog up, and by coincidence there is a major update on it’s anniversary.

For a while now, I have been thinking about changing over from b2evolution to WordPress.  I really liked the ability to integrate multiple blogs into one, but I guess it is not a showstopper.

There are a few other blogs I have been administrating that use WordPress, and it would be a bit too much of a time investment to truly ‘dig-in’ and learn the innards of two blog platforms.

The final straw was the huge batch of spam comments coming in via b2evolution for the past few weeks.  I’m sure I could tinker with it to plug whatever whole that they are using to post them, but it is much easier to just have one set of updates to locate and apply when a technical issue arises.

I was able to copy over most of the content from the old site, but did not copy the comments (not that we usually get a many other than the spam).

I also put up a theme fitting for the upcoming holiday.   I have manually re-created post categories and will still have to re-do tags, but I think it is ready to go live.

Summer Vacation

Well, only a month left for the kids’ Summer Vacation. Having both of their birthdays occur so close together during the summer does make sure that we always have something to spice up the lazy-days. Hopefully we can slip in some more fun before they go back to the grind.

PLINQO and LINQ to SQL

Being an Oracle DBA, I am quite used to writing routines to generate code for me. On my latest project (a software re-write of an app into .NET / C# code), some consultants on the team recommended using CodeSmith.

We have moved our standard templates for triggers and packages to using CodeSmith, and now they are thinking about using PLINQO (http://plinqo.com) – I think I will have to take a serious look at it.
